  • Did Tesla ever incorporate a black box to deal with such events as fatal accidents?

  • There might be a younger, maybe inexperienced and unlicensed, driver in this whole mix. They crashed, panicked, fled the scene and are now being sheltered by their parents.

  • The short sellers wet dream.

  • If there was "no driver" they must have forced that: closing seat belt is required to enable autopilot, closing it without a driver in the seat is already operating the car outside of the specification you agree to when engaging autopilot.

  • Jag u r.. thanks for pronouncing it correctly!!

  • Forget the self-driving aspect. Why did that car burn like that? A car with no gasoline? Reports are it burned for 4 hours.

  • In my opinion, these are the videos where Rob really shines. A bad Tesla situation, disgraceful coverage by msm, countered by clear thinking. Thank you for helping to keep me a sane investor.

  • Investigators need to use their heads... if this were a “Honda” or a “Ford”, they would be turning over every rock looking for a “third” passenger, who left the scene.

  • im sure Tesla has video of what Really went on that night, Media is so Dissapointing Lately.

  • Auto pilot wasn't even engaged!

  • Fake ass news. Thanks for covering

  • As sad as this is the assumptions the media make before an investigation or all the fact come in, a sad state of affairs! Elon said they didn't even have the driverless software.

  • Excellent as always. Prius *face palm*

  • - 1958 AUTO-PILOT - Chrysler Imperial was the First Car to have Cruise Control "The 1958 Chrysler Imperial. In this vehicle, it was called the 'Auto-Pilot'. The system first calculated the ground speed by the rotation of the driveshaft or the speedometer cable." Dec 19, 2020 "By 1960, cruise control was a standard feature on all Cadillacs." Aug 22, 2017 Best not to use cruise control without a driver.

  • 6:43 Yeah, I personally use autopilot heavily in less intense environments like long rural main roads or highways and disengage more than 5 seconds before difficult situations - and I imagine many other users do the same or even more conservative than that. All the other Tesla's I see driving on rural main roads in my area (in EU) undulate in the lane, so they clearly don't use it. I think notable risk of phantom braking combined with its slower-than-human reaction time makes it uncomfortable to use in intense traffic situations. So I'd certainly agree that the AP incident rate is likely to have a selection bias.

  • The autopilot thing is not what worries me about the accident. The fire is, it is not normal for a car that drives into a tree to catch fire. You should definitely follow up on this accident there is more than meets the eye here.

  • #1. Looking at pictures of the crash... look at front wheels. They ended up in such a position that it suggests extremely high speed of impact with a tree head on. #2. That's where fire started since rear tire(or both) is/are still in tact and front ones are burnt out. #3. AP, even if it was engaged would've not been able to accelerate to that speed. Guy in the rear sit probably got knocked out not being buckled out. Guy in the front might not have known how to open the door in case of emergency, in panic climbed over to the passenger side. OR there was a third person. OR driver, the owner was driving and managed to climb to the back sit if front ones were jammed (unlikely from such a collision, my opinion). Probably both where not buckled up. Older, more confident guys, just going for a spin, why buckle up. Maybe they were fresh owners? Or the guy that drove it didn't drive one before. Teslas are pretty heavy, if road is smooth and tires are not new... you will be sliding for a while. In any case, hopefully some data was sent to Tesla and they can publish it. Cars send data more often than once a second it seems.

  • XPeng is the real deal

  • What happened to all the body panels? If the fire was so hot to melt these why are the rear tyres still there? I think the driver ran away. I cannot see that a 59 or 69 year old would do something that stupid.

  • Wait till Tesla turns on the interior camera Elon also tweeted about this

  • Skynet is starting to say F U

  • What we don't know is when the deaths occurred, or even what killed them. Impact? Fire? Smoke inhalation? Bullets? Just saying, it's usually a good idea to wait for real information before risking stepping on your own jiggly bits.

  • lol gg well done Texas Police.. 😐

  • Absolutely there are 3 people in the car . ☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️

  • Good question

  • Can't believe some people can be so irresponsible

  • Shame on the media that they cover a story so poorly, unprofessionally and so disgracefully

  • Any evidence of a body

  • You're actually asking why a Texas cop said something STUPID? What a mystery....

  • Thanks Rob for always bringing great level headed content event with difficult subject matter.

  • Tesla permabull, ignore all negative or debunk it. Only focus on positive. Earnings options curve pins this target $666

  • i knew the media FUD peaked when my girlfriend (who isn't a tesla fan) came to me and said "did you hear about the self driving tesla that crashed and killed 2 people???) Me: (exhales slowly) smh "here we go again." lol

  • Seems like a planned murder to me

  • Omg it's one accident ffs.

  • excellent

  • Yeah, I'm pretty sure this was a mugging/murder situation. There's no way the car was driving without anyone in the driver seat.

  • The chief of the fire department also confirmed that the fire did not blaze for 4 hours.

  • NTSB will be guilty of slaughtering 100's of thousands of folks if they slow the advancement of autonomous.

  • I do have one salient piece of advice for Elon. Tesla can't rely on a corporate communications team of "one" (Elon). It's fine for Tesla to go without any marketing & advertising budget. But when it comes to PR & Corporate Communications it's another story. The "noise" around Tesla in the marketplace is simply too great for Elon to be the lone Tesla representative to respond. He needs a communications team that is as world-class as his engineering and material science departments. Elon, Tesla shareholders, and Tesla Employees deserve as much. With a top notch communications team they would have dealt with this much sooner and nipped this in the bud.

    • Not happening first , Elon thinks all media lies and so their is no point to talking to them, he can spend the money better than paying for PR. Lastly world class PR people what to mange the message by tell people what to do and say So not happening

  • There is a lot amiss in the media stories. 1) Teslas have the best crash rating so this car likely was way over the speed limit. 2) Tesla reported the car did not have FSD and that auto pilot was not engaged. 3) The car could NOT have been in auto pilot anyway for multiple reasons, namely no driver in the seat. 4) Given those few facts imho something nefarious may have been going on. Such as possibly the driver ran off, they hacked into FSD, maybe trying to get a lawsuit case, or maybe even a suicide. I don't know but the facts and the story don't add up.

  • Honestly it's really fortunate Tesla has so much data so they can provide evidence when someone does something dumb with their cars. I'm really stunned about all the stories that came out saying it had autopilot without any proof.

  • This is how FUD works...the only important thing is to put a frightening headline out there. There is nothing of importance after that act. When there is the inevitable conclusion that driver error, neglect or stupidity is the reason for this accident, the FUD media will not care for they have achieved their goal, and the world won’t be bothered to care since they will not remember the specific incident. The endgame for FUD is to slow down the competitor..it’s inherently evil.

  • Probably someone put them on the vehicle and activated AP from the outside of the car. Make it look like an accident 🥸

  • CNBC framed the NHTSA request after mentioning Elon's tweet as "but unfortunately for Elon, he will have to give them the data so they can determine what actually happened" IIRC... they are going from CN-BS to CN-FUD-BS!

  • I know this accident was intentional XEX Gas is Gone

  • Are we supposed to believe that a really old, really wealthy couple was driving at night in a car with no driver for no reason?

  • I don't believe autopilot exceeds speed limits..Fake news

    • Doesn't matter. This car didn't have FSD.

  • The media is the F’ing worst! Completely irresponsible and immoral to blame Tesla before the investigation even began! Not surprised but still upsetting to see all the fake news. Smh

  • This really makes you wonder about these cops... That they would make such a definitive statement about the events of this crash without having all the evidence. Have they conducted criminal investigations with this poor level of due diligence?

  • Is sad that glitchy Tesla car killed these 2 people, I'm sure Tesla will work to improve their cars.

    • And, how do you know that "..a glitchy Tesla car killed these 2 people"? Please direct us to your source(s) of the true and complete facts about this accident.

  • No way to see any video from car because it burned up?

  • What is most striking about the Tesla crash is the statements of the family. Get that. They are reporting that their loved one got in the back of a car without FSD and started to drive. And they tell you that like it's the most normal thing in the world. This to me sounds like a cover up and a very bad excuse for a human mistake trying to shift the blame on technology.

  • If the driver wasn't belted maybe he was thrown in the back seat. If

  • Mainstream media: "let the FUDge-packing begin!"

  • The Audi A6 e-tron looks fugly with that fake oversized plastic grill. At least it's not as horrible as BMWs. Europeans must get over this bigger grill obsession and the fake engine noises. When it comes to EVs, the Asian makers are styled much more better and forward thinking.

  • my only question is why they tried to put that fire out with WATER... lmao as if EV cars haven't existed for years.

  • JAGGGG U ARE....

  • Paul Walker was killed by his Porsche. Media did not give a shit. Funny how they do headlines. Tesla crash. When have you read Ford or VW crash?

  • What if the driver escaped after the impact?

  • Thank you for this video. I feel much better regarding the Tesla accident. I believe in Elon and Tesla and understand that many people judge before knowing the facts.

  • Shanghai Auto Show 2021 add: one woman stand on top of Tesla, wearing T Shirt "break malfunction". Tesla PR VP Tao Lin replied: Tesla never negotiates.

  • Tesla has all the data, they will figure out the truth

  • Could this be a case of foul play?

  • It's pronounced "Jag-wahr" or "Jag-you-wahr", not "Jag-wire" or "Jag-wah". I really don't understand why so many people have trouble with this.

    • the one that drives me nuts is nuke -you- ler . the word is nuclear . nuke-lee-err anyone i hear say nuke you ler i assume they are an idiot. the other one is Iraq . it's pronounced EEE rack not eyerack.

    • @Tesla Daily I see and hear it so often though, that it's no longer funny. It's like my cousin who used to call the pipe that vents smoke out of a stove, a "chimbly". Just stupid, and annoying.

    • it's a running joke

  • Even spoon in hands of idiot can do major damage to human being. Imagine car in hands of ....

  • Probability of Tesla Autopilot accident: 0.0001% Probability of Mass Media misreport Tesla accident: 100%

  • Sad, very sad. My speculation is, launch, blackout, no autopilot, no handling, crash, locked in then fire started. My confidence is.....TESLA will have data, whatever, it may be, THAT WILL BE ABLE TO RESOLVE the scenario and root cause far better, far clearer and completely than other accidents. However, as stated, sad passing of people. RIP

  • The media, as usual, is running with half a story and their hair on fire. The sheriff that made the driverless comment contradicted himself in the next sentence and in any case did not have enough information to draw that conclusion. As we now know, but will likely not be as cool a story, the car was NOT equipped with FSD (full self-driving) and the logs (black box) show that autopilot was NOT engaged. It also happened 30 seconds into a high-speed drive, at 11:30 on a Saturday night, bringing several other elements into play that should be investigated. In the meantime, feel free to pile on Tesla. It's good clickbait, the truth be damned.

  • Somebody did this in order to lower the Tesla stock cost, probably to buy more stocks cheaper later on :)

  • The other baffling report I have seen, is that the car burned for 4 hours and the firemen were not able to stop it. Don't fire departments have a foam product to stop chemical fires instead of using water? 🤦🏻‍♂️

  • I was once in an accident in a 1967 Camero. A guy blew through a red light and hit my driver's door at about 50mph. I was out for a second or so. When I came to, I was sitting very comfortably in the normal position in the front passenger seat. I looked over and saw the driver's door pushed half way across the driver's seat. Thank God, I wasn't wearing my seatbelt. I have no idea how I could possibly have been blasted into that position by the collision, but obviously I was. If you've ever been in a '67 Camero, you'll know how difficult it would be to climb from the driver's seat, over the center console, past the shift lever, and into the passenger seat in the normal seating position with your feet in the normal position on the floor. In a high-speed accident, amazing, even unbelievable things can happen.

  • The driver bailed before the crash got the heck out of dodge! My guess.

  • re: Musk as the first trillionaire. No doubt Elon would get a kick out of this... but that's clearly not his goal. Elon's goal is carbon free future, and humans living on Mars. So as investors we need to consider what this might mean for our investment. Could Elon sell off all his Tesla shares in a couple of years and sink it all into SpaceX? What would this mean? NASA's budget is about $25 billion/year, Musk is already worth about 8 times this. Are we on board with not becoming super rich so humans can occupy Mars?

    • @Tesla Daily Thanks.. That makes sense. Than what might be the impact of Conglomerate X funding Mars? Say x00 billion over the next 5 years going towards Mars.

    • This is basically why I think a company X makes sense. Lets Musk play with the purse strings a little more easily. Transferring his wealth via stock sales seems kind of inefficient.

  • I am angry with the fake news main stream media. They had 24 hours to update their story but did not.

  • Rob should have his own news channel. So balanced and fair assessment of news. Thanks for your professionalism

    • It’s called “Tesla Daily”

  • I'd almost bet my life that alcohol caused it and whoever was driving either moved or bounced, lol

  • What a disappointment from VW/Audi. I've been rooting for them to give me something to even *consider* buying when I move out of my A4. Alas, it will just be deciding between a model Y, S or cybertruck

  • Rob, you are a blessing. Thank you.

  • I find it amazing that manufactures continue to incorporate a front grill on their electric cars..

  • An important question that would provide a lot of detail is "who was the owner of the Tesla?"
