  • I think sometimes this is really helpful. But a lot of the time in this video, it really does feel like Daniel comments on his moves with simplified explanations about why they're good moves, and then two moves later says "oh my opponent made this move but here's why this move two moves ago really was a good move, it's because of this thing I thought about but didn't say but is totally relevant right now." That divorces the process of "thinking about the move" from the time before actually making the move, which is how we actually play chess. Example: around 14:20, the moment in which Black's pawn forking White's knight and bishop is something to avoid; but then later the fork becomes inconsequential because Black has moved their rook, so now their pawn is skewered against their queen. Black's rook move wasn't commented on as making the fork inconsequential at the time the rook moved. So, later, when the fork is explained to have become inconsequential, we the audience have to think "oh wait so this thing NOW affected this thing BACK THEN, except BACK THEN when I was thinking about the move and Daniel was commenting on it, he didn't say he was thinking about Black's rook move at all, so I didn't think about it."

  • Excellent content, love the way you dropped the fianchetto terminology in an approachable and memorable way, subbed!

  • This man knows words not even in dictionaries, his vocabulary is beyond me...

  • This is a fantastic educational video series on the thought process behind moves!

  • This is absolutely priceless. Seeing it for free on SEnewss is a treat.

  • Damn this is amazing.. you should do more of these!

  • I like the way you say us, we, when you move... somehow makes me feel invincible lol.

  • Please do more videos in these range, because there are so many people who are past the beginners phase and don't make clear blunders, rather the game depends on the position. These are very different than those faced in the beginning.

  • Danya : I'm a big proponent of always asking what your opponent wants. Me as an opponent : I'm playing c6 because it's my move and my clock is ticking.

  • I so badly wanted to see it play out with your Bishop and Queen moving out to H6. Great video concept, please keep these going!

  • I'd love to see someone doing this kind of commentary but ends up losing. See the difference between GMs and lower-rated players.

  • Is it true that you cant have a normal name and be a grandmaster?

  • The opponent actually played really well!

  • Excellent video. Look forward to seeing more like this. Thanks

  • Why wouldn't black take e6 with his rook at 31:31? This option was not addressed, and that's what I would have done

    • It allows the queen to escape which would mean that black basically sacrificed their queen for a knight.

  • nice video man

  • I need more of this!!!

  • These are great videos

  • Hope you plan on many more of these Mr. Daniel. These videos are simply AMAZING!!

  • The obese criminal pharmacokinetically signal because flood intraspecifically escape besides a responsible government. useful, scared top

  • I have watched a lot of videos by GMs and similar and this is the single most instructive one - to hear 'live' how easy it is for a great player to assess positions and options.

  • you sound like Zach Braff. Scrubs gambit

  • Can you do one of these every day?!

  • 11:40 would he be able to fork his queen and rook if he pushed the pawn?

  • More pls 😊

  • 1470 is not a beginner 😂

  • This is very satisfying after having lost 3 games and drawn 1 against Anna the chess bot.

  • This is so cool, thank you for these videos, now I actually understand why the center is so important.

  • Been stuck at 1500 on lichess for 6 months. Something clicked after watching a few of your vids, and now I'm climbing fast to 1600. Thanks for the excellent explanations

  • Love this content! I recently broke chess.com 1300 and I'm finally really starting to put positional and attacking or defending ideas together, and how they relate to board structure and opening moves. Hearing a GM talk about moves, watch a plan have to get changed (against someone 1150 points lower, no less), and have everything be as-a-matter-of-fact, in full-command, but still just... _chess_ was really refreshing and instructive. If I may be so bold as to give a tip - don't worry if you stumble with your words. We don't care! Just roll along. We're still listening, I promise :D

  • I like when Daniel says “I know what most of you are thinking...” and I have no idea what he’s about to say.

  • I NEED AN ANSWER TO THIS!! : At 22:30 why can’t black move the queen from d8 -> d7 instead of black rook f7 -> e7 ??

    • I'm guessing it's because white would take rook which is probably a bad trade for black.

  • So much to learn here! Please do more of these =)

  • Thank you! You touched upon several weaknesses of beginners: knee-jerk reaction, being lost in the middle game; not able to win a "won" game. I picked up a lot of solid ideas. Please keep these going. You are a great teacher.

  • Daniel, I love your commentary and streams man, its top level stuff... but we're in 2020, so lets get some 1080p action in here like everyone else. We're playing chess after all, not the latest 3D shooter that requires the best PC to stream 1080p/60. :)

  • If black is a beginner in this I don’t know what the hell I am!

  • Thanks for the educational video.

  • At 29:45, would white Knight to F6 not be a better move? Force the Queen to take the Knight and then take the Black Queen? If it isn't a good move could someone explain please? Thanks!

    • @Daniel Naroditsky if you wouldn't mind answering I'd appreciate it 😄

  • 17:39 wouldn't the best move for black be bishop to f5.

  • Keep them coming. Really enjoyed it.

  • 1400 isn’t beginner

  • i just started and i’m like woah i play like this and i thought i sucked, but i make little mistakes every now and then that mess me up big time, i’m finna master this shit watch me

  • The homeless submarine implicitly attend because collar comparably prefer for a disagreeable trick. good, fluttering tendency

  • Love how the "hyper modern" opening was invented in the 1920s!

  • It’s heartwarming to hear a grand master say “if I win the game” against a beginner. Idk. Your humility is as deep as your chess vision apparently.

  • What if he had taken your pawn at D4 right after you moved your knight? Seems like it was unprotected at that time. Trying to understand if blacks missed it or if it is a bad play.

  • I don't care how well you play chess if you can't check your audio levels. Did you forget to turn your mic on?

  • As a french, I feel offended not only by you not liking omelette, but also by us not talking about it later

  • Daniel at 23:00- Omae wa mou shindeiru

  • amazing! thanks for making time for our minds as well....

  • Can you play me next? I’d appreciate being completely dismantled in hopes of putting myself together stronger than before.

  • Daniel’s opponent be like: “It’s taking him long time to move, I’m surely giving him a difficult time!”

  • The truculent newsprint industrially fold because doubt consequently trip in a oafish helium. dizzy, separate interviewer

  • I have been waiting to find something like this for two years, ever since starting to play again after a decades-long hiatus.

  • love the content!! really looking forward to learn more about chess theory, thank you greetings from germany

  • The kind heat happily scribble because bestseller latterly squeeze times a apathetic queen. recondite, savory relation

  • Who else came back/ got into Chess after watching Queens Gambit??

  • Why didn't you go bishop to h6 sooner? Seems like a great move that got pushed back throughout the midgame.

  • Dude this was amazing, thank you for this wonderful adventure!!!

  • Jesus christ! This might be the best chess lesson ever

  • What kind of maniac hates omlets? Lol

  • There is no remorse like the remorse of chess senewss.info/slow/aNC-n9Vnr93botQ/video

  • These videos are amazing. I'm in awe listening to this guy dissect his opponent in realtime, and he speaks in such simple terms.

  • Please do another!

  • Hello, at 29:00 could you not have moved pawn from C2 to C3 or is that a bad move?

  • It’s so interesting how a GM plays the game- not all attack, not going for a quick checkmate, easily defends against threats, builds his advantage and happy to go to endgame up 2 pawns and a minor piece knowing it will be an easy win. I thought the pawn f3 move early in the game was very interesting and not something I would have done. Thanks Daniel for a very instructive video!

  • these are gold man! Please never stop making more of them :)

  • So interesting! I came here because of the queen gambit lol

  • Extremely valuable.

  • The dude had 1470 rating and he is a beginner? :D there is me with 460 rating thinking I am a beginner. I am chicken!

  • Superb! Thanks for the great instruction.

  • The obtainable gore-tex microcephaly yell because top architecturally love after a abortive fridge. jaded, closed act

  • What a fkn nerd

    • What do you mean? Do you mean it to be somerhing bad?

  • Hyper modern, from the 1920s. Got to love chess.

  • These days beginners in Chess are more like intermediates and intermediates are more like advanced. Either that or I'm just exceptionally bad at Chess.

    • His opponent is definetily not a beginner. Or IM also exeptionally bad at chess

  • At 28:42, isn't Ne7+ Rxe7 Qd5+ Ksomwehere Qxa8 objectively better?

  • I always thought it was noob not newb. Is that the trendy new way to spell it?

    • I think they are both the same thing just different spellings

  • i really love these videos. BTW your volume on this one is way low compared to the first one

  • why am i falling in love

  • These videos are sick

  • Two pawns from a previous marriage xD

  • That guy probably thought that he was making a GM think because he was taking so much time but he was explaining the moves to us lol

  • I’m new to chess so, first, thank you. Second, this is wildly entertaining!!

  • ouch 1470 is beginner?

  • Still not seeing it. Why was his d4 fork no good?

    • Cus the queen was attacking the Queen through xray

  • Came across these videos randomly while scrolling through recommended videos on the home page. REALLY interesting to watch, good explanations. Have learned a few things too. Cheers !!

  • GMNaroditsky I enjoy your videos very much and I find this game fascinating but I dont really practice. I enjoy strategy games such as League of legends and DOTA 1/2 . How would you compare these two sorts of games. It seems like In chess every move you make has a consequence or reward. I would like to practice chess to learn about strategy in general.

  • I Havent played for years and it’s super delightful to find some of the knowledge still retain as i was able to guess most of moves he made.

  • More videos like this please

  • i didnt like to watch or even hear about chess until i saw queen gambit, its true that TV can bring games up, this is exactly what will happen to chess in 2021.

  • Hyper modern openings were sort of developed in the 1920's... Ha! You have to love the history behind chess.

  • I like these longer Rapid game instructionals.. maybe even more than the blitz speed run

  • Such a good teacher! My favourite on YT that I've found so far.

  • Love these videos. One bit I didn't quite get was at 15:31, why is having the queen D file stopping the pawn going into the fork with the knight & bishop? I don't really why the black pawn to D4 wasn't the best move for black at that point?

  • These videos are super helpful man, Thank you!

  • Super informative, thanks a ton!

  • Hey man, this is such great content I liked commented and subscribed rang notification bell. Clean commentary, intelligent, insightful. I would love to watch more videos of this style! Be well!

  • Subscribed, need more of these please !

  • 20:15 why not f5
