FIRST TEST DRIVE! - 4x4 Off-Road UTV Build Ep.25

Publicerades den 30 apr 2021
Fabricating air intake, routing brake lines and bleeding brakes, fabricating front propshaft and finally test driving this beast for the first time. :)
This is part of a series of a four wheel drive utility vehicle build to lessen the work load on my trusty 2002 Honda Foreman Rubicon TRX500FA. This partially answers the question "Why?" but for those who want to ask "why don't you just buy a side-by-side instead of building one?" I just want to say - I'm not made of money. Side-by-sides are ridiculously expensive, even the car I drive around daily is worth less (not worthless though!), hell, it is even worth less than my 2002 Honda ATV.
"How much HP will it have?" - the 1.4 litre FWD petrol engine I'm planning on using has 55 kw and this will not change, but the torque will be tripled via the BMW differentials I'm using to transfer power to front and rear axles.
"It will be too heavy!" - this project just like the firewood processor project does not have to float. And a heavier vehicle will handle better anyway when hauling heavy loads.
Stay tuned for future episodes! Thanks for watching!

    • @James Killeen a trailer that can carry the UTV and also be pulled by the UTV

    • This is really awesome. I wanted to see the PTO work. It was very nice to see it drive and get around so well. You really did a good job with the gearing and everything.

    • Donn DIY, how could you live with that awful right steering wheel position !!

    • Make a trailer too brov never know why boss

    • класс !!!!!!

  • Just buggy version of cat telehandler

  • As a fabricator in the UK with 42 years experience you are a talented guy, good work my friend. Only negative comment... don't weld with bare arms and hands !

  • Mühendislik hatası var amk. Motor hiç yanda olur mu aşırı dengesiz gider bide bu araç küçük çaplı off road yapacak önde veya arkada. Olmalıydı motor

  • ДОНН, ты красавчик! Такой аппарат собрал! Столько труда, ресурсов, и сил! Молодчага!💪👍🤝

  • 3TUZ ?

  • Nicely done, but i don't like the engine next to the driver seat, it should be in front or back

  • I(

  • This is a great difference between DonnDIY chdnnel and ВАЛ channel (валканал). Here we see that all parts of dashboard is working truly. But on the Russian's chanell... Nothing is working. Except engine and brakes

  • Salute Sir

  • Nice ! Which its top speed?

    • @Donn DIY i have thing too to build one. The perfect one will be with one multitronic gearbox. But you have done a verry good work !

    • @Donn DIY this its why you should use one motor from suzuki vitara ...or something like this.

    • Slow. 😁

  • Наконец дождался выезда! Ура! Хотя за работой тоже приятно наблюдать.

  • Very cool build.

  • BRAVO excellent work. the transmission it would be better automatic

  • Nice work man! Seems to work really well!

  • Awesome

  • The steering wheel is on the wrong side!

    • Actually, it's on the right side, not left.

  • You have done AWESOME!!! That is so cool to be able to build something like that from the ground up.

  • Top

  • That's a remarkable vehicle, I'm in awe. Congratulations on your first drive.

  • Düşünsene yapımı bittikten sonra kapıdan geçmiyomuş. 😂😂 harika olmuş emeğine sağlık.

  • ما شاء الله الله يرزقك

  • it will be very hot when the engine warms up

  • Pretty interesting build you definitely have skills, but you might consider checking your valve clearances to get rid of some of that top end clatter.

  • Tienes que hacer un tractor cortacésped que recoja la hierba!!!

  • Exhaust sounds like a bubble maker bubble bubble bubble and Great a great Job Donn !!

  • les premiers essais ce passe bien

  • Ну наконец то!!!!👍🔥

  • Gawd. Hope u cleaned those shaving out that intake pipe after you drilled. Lmao. Or let the motor clean it out

  • Test final speed

  • big like !

  • Hello class video! Super

    • See my videos, maybe you will like something! If you do not like it, I will not be offended. I will not make mistakes in the next one. Please

  • They should make all utvs and atvs with manual transmissions. Cvt I like it but it's bullshit

  • nice build

  • Nothing is more permanent than a temporary solution.

    • Yes, for some reason I know it too well. 😁

  • فنان👍👍👍👍

  • 👍🏻👍🏻 Nice UTV Donn ! Will sure come in handy I promise ya, I built one acouple of yrs back, "same tires", 4x4 , from an Arctic Cat for my LiL Hobby farm and still using it today. Very handy and reliable ! Nice job buddy 👍🏻👍🏻✌🏻💪🏻

  • Unefficient design with space just for driver

  • Seat is on the wrong side! Looks great So impressed

    • If you think about it... it is actually on the right side. 😉

  • You should build more on the driver side to distribute the weight

    • Ahh. Dandy

    • It is already balanced including the weight of fuel tank, fuel, battery and myself opposed to the weight engine, transmission, radiator, air box.

  • My God please put street tires on and autox it one time just for shits. It's amazing. Congratulations!!!

  • Pretty good!!!

  • estonia?

  • Молодец круто💪💪💪Давай ещё что нибудь делай👍👍👍👍

  • So cool 👍🏻

  • keren bosku 👌👌

  • УСПЕХОВ ТЕБЕ... С УВАЖЕНИЕМ КРАВЕЦ АНДРЕЙ... 😎

  • КРАСАВЧИК... МОЛОДЦОМ...

  • Fantastic work. I've watched all the videos and I like the final product. Great job. I have just one curiosity. I know that you cannot put a price on something build by your own hand, but I am curious how much money have been spent on this UTV, not considering the work and the parts from the old van? Just the new parts and the metal involved.

    • Amount of money spent on new parts and steel is around 1000 EUR at the moment (half of it was spent on the tires), not including my own work or the donor car.

  • Mantap bang saya juga lagi bikin mini buggy...🙏😁😊

  • 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

  • Вес наверн килограмм 700...

  • I love how you used a transverse mounted engine as a transfer case. That solves soooo many issue in 4x4 fab

    • This is nothing new - people have built vehicles with such drivetrain layout for decades. But I share your opinion on it thay it's just genius. 😁

  • 🤝👏👏👏👏

  • Beautiful work

  • Congratulations, I have followed you since the first episode ..

  • Brilliant work Donn. It never ceases to amaze me that people feel the need to criticise! I'd like to see them put together a project like this as quickly as you do! Very well done. Love the channel and always great to see your ideas. Good on you for having a go! Cheers from Australia ;)

  • great

  • I'm from Vietnam, nice to know you, and have a passion for mechanics 👍👍

  • I wish u would have done a pto for Bush hog or small tractor 🚜 accessories

    • It has a PTO. Propshaft driven though. Implements will come.

    • Still love it thi

  • Donny is such an inspiration to so many, I think he's the coolest guy on the internet, this vehicle is awesome. I can't wait for the next project.

  • Congrats!! 👍10:12 face says "I love it when a plan comes together" , just a cigar missing haha :D

    • Cheers man! Exactly!

  • 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

  • Donn DIY - What's the next PROJECT ?? Какой следующий ПРОЭКТ??

    • @Donn DIY ок😉

    • Finishing this project first. Then new projects. 😉

  • Awesome, as usual Donn. Once I realize how much there is to one of these machines I appreciate the factory made units more. Art

  • Phase 2, rear steer.

  • The steering wheel is on the wrong side😂

  • Outstanding build, I believe that I have watched all episodes. Very Cool!

  • Felicitaciones geniooo!!! Una belleza la bestia..!!!

  • Are you planning on making specific mattracks for this vehicle?

    • I can use the ones I made for my ATV. But it would be fun to make a new upgraded set with higher gearing since the gearing the UTV has right now is way too low for the homemade ATV tracks.

  • You need a V8 in there

  • Sad how its only a 1 seater but still! The side few looks siick

    • No worries, it's a workhorse not a recreational vehicle. 😉

  • Amazing work, seems like it's great fun to drive along being a useful tool on the farm with the PTO, wondering what you'll build to make use of it. Seeing this ATV evolve out of nothing was a great journey.

    • Cheers man. This UTV is still evolving. I'm thinking of many things I can use with the propshaft driven PTO. The main thing being the PTO driven timber trailer with hydraulic boom.

  • Bravo, we are also looking at you in France, you are a good source of inspiration, we also manufacture rolling machines...

  • 👍👍👍👍👍 that is an awesome machine

  • Its generally a cool build.... Just couple things that I feel could be an issue... 1. Its basically just the stock van in cut down skeleton for,. Nothing is really upgraded or heavy due for off road use or purpose. #2 and which is completely a personal thing but who likes offroading alone.... Best part of going 4wheeling is taking a random girl with you, drinking then making out with no clothes on at the end of the night

    • "Nothing is really upgraded..." - 1) twice the original clearance, 2) better tires, 3) propshaft driven PTO for a driving trailer, 4) geared down drivetrain for slower crawling and more torque, 5) narrower stance & shorter wheel base for agility and manouverability, 6) stripped down mass for better off-road capabilities. That's enough for a homemade UTV in my mind. 🙂

  • Great job !! You are incredibly talented I can tell by your smile that it's been worth it congrats so proud of you ☺

  • Молодец!!!💙💛👍👍👍👍👍

  • 👏👏👏 ravi de voir le moteur Peugeot vivre sur cette création ! Félicitations de France 🤘🙏

  • When does the gas pedal get fitted? You need both hands for the wheel/gear stick?

  • i built one of these from a golfcart and a suzuki quadboss 4x4 a few years ago. was the first 4x4 one i had seen built. i miss that thing,. wish i would recorded it., took plenty of pics tho lol

  • Ah Ha!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏

  • nüüd vaid kilo värvi ja valma;)

    • Jah, nii lihtne ongi. 😀

  • Including your time was it worth more to build or to just buy one?

    • @Donn DIY awesome 👍

    • For me it was worth more to build it than buy it since I didn't have the money to buy it, but I had the tools and time and donor cars.

  • Годная техника🖒

  • Love the build. Good to see it runing and driving

  • Well done. I am still amazed at your engineering skill set.

  • 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

  • Awesome build as usual!! But I have to ask, why did you make it so you shift with your left arm and not the right?

    • The gearbox is on the left.

  • I cant wait for pto powered trailer

  • Мтз даже есть...

  • Молодец...

  • Pretty easy to add a throttle cable , especially after building all that. You're just not getting the real experience of all your effort without it it Mr Donn? Needs a tow ball. Going to be a S4!t tonne of fun man .A simple idea but theres a great deal of work to make it all work so sweetly. A great idea at that.

  • What does oli puudub mean?

  • Hea video

  • Too bad work - misconception is unbalanced. You could use the power train from Smart CDI - it is detachable (in 4 bolts it is attached to the body) and contains everything: engine, gearbox, engine wheels, suspension, brakes. DeDion suspension ,6-speed gearbox, 15 "wheels, top speed 135km / h, OM660 / 799cc turbodiesel engine (works without turbo) .

  • Not going to lie, but that thing looks dangerous af.

  • МТЗ стоит на заднем плане?

  • Super

  • Nice motor, thanks for the series. Cheers
